This 2024 Workforce Development Guidance: Towards Greater Diversity in the Healthcare Chaplaincy Workforce is finally completed and published. It was requested by members at our AGM just prior to Covid19, and has been shaped in many ways by what we have learnt collectively in the last four years.
The guidance makes it clear that significant change is required across the UK to ensure chaplaincy is fit for the future of healthcare. It confirms that there is no simple ‘one size fits all’ paradigm for a profession such as ours, but does offer a clear understanding of what good looks like. It makes a large number of recommendations to support progress towards the greater diversity that we need in the profession — aimed at strengthening what we have to offer to patients and staff.

This is an excellent workforce development guide. I have been advocating the importance of working towards greater diversity for some time now. I do hope this will help create an atmosphere of inclusion and diversity at all levels and in all the bodies which we hold membership in.
